Ford Scientist Succeeds in Farm-to-Car Mission

Back in 2000, Debbie Mielewski was just starting out on a project to make foam out of soybeans for Ford Motor Company.

"Gosh, 15 years ago now..." she blushes.

At the time, she had no idea that Henry Ford was also interested in using agricultural byproducts in cars. The company's founder even built a soy-plastic prototype car in the 1940's, but development was put on permanent hold when World War II broke out.
